Weaning From Breastfeeding
Saturday, August 27th, 2011Please give me tips on weaning my baby from breastfeeding.?
She is my fifth but the first that I have breastfed, she is 11 months.
Gradually reduce the frequency of nursing sessions and the length of each nursing session. It will be much easier on you and her that way. Nursing while you are out is easy to cut. Then instead of nursing then offering solids, offer solids and then nurse. If you are trying to cut a nursing session that is part of a routine (like bed time or nap time) that will probably take the longest to eliminate. You can try having dad put her down to see if you and she are ready to let those sessions go. Be sure to give her lots of extra hugs and cuddles and one on one time to make up for the nursing sessions you cut. Try to avoid sitting in your nursing spot and position except for when you want to nurse. If you wait another month you can offer her cow's milk in a cup as a replacement and skip bottles. Don't worry if it takes a long time. Toddlers benefit from nursing just as much as newborns doand the age at which children will naturally wean is between 2 and 4, depending on the child, so she may be quite resistant at first.
