Question about drinking alcohol & breast-feeding?
My spouse comes home on an R&R from Iraq next week. He said he would like to have 1 night out to a bar/club, just us two. I'm currently exclusively breast-feeding our 4 month old daughter.
I have 5+ bags of breast-milk stored in the freezer. My mother said she would watch her for the evening.
How do I pull this off? How many drinks would you limit yourself to? How long should I wait to nurse her after X amount of drinks? Any advice (other than don't drink, I would like to have a few drinks--not get plastered)
You can safely have a couple of drinks. Then, as soon as you get home you can nurse your baby. (Only a trace of alcohol gets into the milk and wont' hurt your baby.)
I wouldn't drink more than that because you will then be too impaired to handle your baby safely. If you DO drink enough to be impaired, you can nurse again as soon as you are sober enough to handle your baby. (Alcohol isn't stored in the milk, so when you are mostly sober again, your milk will be fine.)
